Rising Damp usually occurs when unprotected porous materials such as bricks, blocks or stone mortars become into contact with damp materials. This can be earth or a structural material such as a concrete block or structure.

There are many visible and unviable symptoms associated with damp:

• Damp can be unsightly and causes damage to decoration, manifesting itself often as wavy lines along walls, peaking at corners.
• Damp often causes timber decay, particularly in older properties with unprotected timbers, or sub floor situations with poor ventilation.  
• Damage can be caused to render plaster systems due to hygroscopic salt contamination. This is a salt that attracts moisture from the atmosphere.
• The moisture present often saturates the wall. This leaves higher conductivity of the walls, resulting in increased heat loss from the property.
• The whole damp situation created a very unhealthy environment. This can be put at risk due to the increase in fungal and mould growth spores.
• Damp can affect all unprotected walls this is irrespective of the age, construction or design if defects in the damp proof course exist.  

Rising Damp Treatment

Methods of rising damp treatment vary because there are four main sources of dampness:

2. Rain damp or penetrating Damp
3. The Weather and humidity.  
4. Dampness caused by building defects, leaking guttering or plumbing leaks.
